Oxalate or Oxalic Acid is a metabolic breakdown product of the Krebs Cycle in eukaryotes and the glyoxylate cycle in other microorganisms. It can be found in the urine of humans and other mammals. Oxalate concentration can be used as a measure of kidney function where a high level of oxalate is an indicator for kidney stones which are primarily made of the insoluble salt calcium oxalate. Measuring oxalate is more accurate than measuring calcium as a marker for kidney stones because calcium is excreted at high concentrations even in normal urine.

Cayman’s Glycolysis Cell-Based Assay Kit provides a colorimetric method for detecting L-lactate, the end product of glycolysis, produced and secreted by cultured cells. In this assay, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) catalyzes the reaction between NAD+ and lactate, yielding pyruvate and NADH. The NADH directly reduces a tetrazolium salt (INT) to a colored formazan which absorbs between 490 and 520 nm. The quantity of formazan produced is proportional to the quantity of lactate in the culture medium and is thus an indirect measurement of glycolysis. This assay can be adapted to high-throughput screening to examine glycolytic regulators in a cell-based system. In addition, the non-invasive sampling leaves the cells intact and thus allows multiplex testing for additional markers.

Cayman Chemical Acid Phosphatase Colorimetric
Cayman’s Acid Phosphatase Assay provides a convenient method for detecting AP activity in plasma, serum, urine, and semen. The assay utilizes para-nitrophenyl phosphate (pNPP) as a chromogenic substrate for the enzyme. In the first step, AP dephosphorylates pNPP. In the second step, the phenolic OH-group is deprotonated under alkaline conditions resulting in p-nitrophenolate that yields an intense yellow color which can be measured at 405-414 nm. The kit provides all reagents needed to assay AP activity, and includes L-tartrate, an inhibitor of non-tartrate resistant APs.
